Venice Volleyball Squatting

“What are these girls doing with sand bags? Hope one of them is not squatting with the bag? Because her technique looks poor.” Thanks for the observation – She is squatting - what is good technique?

Do you ever use the sandbags to do cleans? If so, how do the high school girls do with them? I have never used them in a workout but have always wanted to incorporate them.

If she is not going any lower then its less than a 1/4 squat.

This is the right technique, ignore the load and look at the technique.

But anon, you are only looking at a snapshot, to assume anything on the depth is speculation. Besides, 1/4 squats may be warranted at this time of the program for some reason.

This is a direct quote from Bob Alejo I found.

"the research clearly shows that squatting to high and TOO LOW result in little gluteal activation of which one movement is rock-bottom squats"

On the subject of squatting Dan John makes a good presentation here.

Anyway I think sandbags are a waste of time. Get under the bar with a focus on form not load and that is the most efficient way to build a good strength foundation. And 1/4 squat is a good way to ruin the knees even if speculating from the snapshot. Please tell me why 1/4 squats would be warranted in a program.

Maybe force absorption from a small jump squat...especially with females.

Sandbags or not, you are still talking about squats, not the implement lifted.
