A Thought
Muscle physiology and the laws of physics are not suspended during training. Just remembering that thought will direct training toward a functional approach. The body must respond to stress that is applied. Gravity will always win!
The Functional Path is a path that had been traveled many times before but had fallen out of use in favor of smoother paved roads that promised faster and easier results. Seeking to follow and better define the functional path is a continuing journey, fortunately it is a journey that many have traveled before. Functional Path training is getting back to the basics of movement. It is learning to tune into the body and it’s inherent wisdom to produce rhythmic flowing movement.

True, the laws of physics are not suspended during training, and gravity will always win. But what if a tool causes gravity confusion?
ABC World News tonight Nov. 6 had a segment on barefoot running. Irene Davis of the Drayer P.T. Institute in Delaware discussed how some of our modern footware is contributing to injury by altering mechanics. She had the news reporter run with his shoes on, then barefoot. Barefoot running actually reduced the forces on his lower leg by moving the stress off his heels and onto the mid foot.
