Functional Path Training
The Functional Path is a path that had been traveled many times before but had fallen out of use in favor of smoother paved roads that promised faster and easier results. Seeking to follow and better define the functional path is a continuing journey, fortunately it is a journey that many have traveled before. Functional Path training is getting back to the basics of movement. It is learning to tune into the body and it’s inherent wisdom to produce rhythmic flowing movement.

Both! But the sum is greater than the individual parts.
Both. I would say the horse is an extension of the rider.
Who is getting trained? Who is being chemically enhanced? The rider or horse?

I think Jeff touches upon the real question; IS IT a sport when the horses are on so many drugs? Ironically, the governing body actually sanctions some the enhancement drugs, but checks “regularly” to make sure the horses aren't being given what's considered over the legal limit. It's kind of surprising PETA isn't all over this topic....

Has anyone ever rode a horse at half speed?
TC
Actually, the rider is an extension of the horse
Actually,PETA is all over the topic. There are electroshocks to teach the horses to start fast, there are hurdle races which end up with many dead and injured horses every year... it is no animal friendly sport (such as for example distance riding is).
Anonymous,
I'm glad to hear PETA is on it, because it's pretty easy to make an argument horse racing is animal cruelty...it's the best chemist, not necessarily horse, that wins....
Todd
PETA is a radical organization which puts down 2/3 of the animals in their own shelter. They have also provided funds to an arsonist in the USA to fire bomb labs. Check out Penn and Teller HBO expose on youtube about PETA.
