The Functional Path is a path that had been traveled many times before but had fallen out of use in favor of smoother paved roads that promised faster and easier results. Seeking to follow and better define the functional path is a continuing journey, fortunately it is a journey that many have traveled before. Functional Path training is getting back to the basics of movement. It is learning to tune into the body and it’s inherent wisdom to produce rhythmic flowing movement.

Vern: one of the best coaches I have worked with responded to me once when I complained that my athletes were not hearing me that my expectations should not be so high. We thought about our coaching almost every waking hour and we would be lucky if the athletes we coached were listening to us for a portion of our practices. (We both work with high school athletes.)He had a philosophy that was very simple but he repeated it again and again -- similar to Seth Godin suggests in his blog -- almost like a mantra: no excuses, no swearing, and when he said something they were to answer "yes coach". By insisting on those simple standards he was able to get kids to learn an amazing amount of technical knowledge in basketball that led to over 750 wins in his coaching career with a wide range of talent.
